When we talk about a God of the universe and a God of the individual Father Rohr writes, “A merely personal God becomes tribal and sentimental, and a merely universal God never leaves the realm of abstract theory and philosophical principles…To be loved by Jesus enlarges our heart capacity. To be loved by the Christ enlarges our mental capacity. We need both a Jesus and a Christ…to get the full picture. A truly transformative God—for both the individual and history—needs to be experienced as both personal and
universal.”
As we see how the universe is ever expanding through the space telescopes which have sent astonishing pictures back to Earth to the new revelations in quantum physics about the smallest aspects of our world should it not surprise us that God is operating in both worlds. We know our spiritual growth is an ever-expanding world on the inside and the outside so why would we not want to grow in understanding of the world we live as well as the world that lives in us.
Lead Like Jesus does both. We learn about our hearts and the heart of God as we study EGO, then we learn about who we are following by seeing how Jesus had a plan and knew how to implement it. Thirdly, we learn about the work of a Jesus follower by understanding the apprenticeship program we are under, and finally we learn about the doing habits of Jesus, obeying God, showing unconditional love, grace, forgiveness, encouragement and community.
Lead Like Jesus is not a one and done study. It is an understanding that God is ever-expanding in knowledge and relationship and we are to be in conversation with God, the world and other people to fully grasp what it means to follow and lead like Jesus.
