As Christians we hold tight to the belief that God loves us unconditionally and He has granted us grace. God’s grace cannot be earned or bought; it is His gift to us. But God knew we would need an example of how we should live in His grace. He sent his son to earth in human form to show us how to live. Jesus was the example. We must learn to live our lives to show we understand that if we are truly Christians…. followers of Christ…. we must live in love and service to others. We come to church to worship God, but how we live our daily lives is how we show the world that God is love, that he sent his only son to be the example of love incarnate, to die on the cross for forgiveness of our sins, and through the resurrection to give us life everlasting.
The season of Lent has arrived. Lent begins with Ash Wednesday on March 5th. Lent is the time we prepare our hearts to realize the sacrifice Jesus made for us.
In the rear of the Sanctuary there is a box with Lenten Devotional booklets. Please feel free to pick one up for your family. There are 40 short meditations with scripture and prayer, one for each day of Lent. Hopefully these will help us realize the salvation God has granted us through the sacrifice of Jesus as we journey toward Easter.
When asked which is the greatest commandment He said to them, “You shall love the Lord God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and all your strength.’ The second is this, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.” ( Mark 12:30-31)
